Who are the Favorites to Sign Hugo Ekitike?

There has been a lot of speculation about where Hugo Ekitike will be playing his football come the end of the summer transfer window. We’ve given you an overview of the situation of each of the interested clubs, based on the most recent Sky Sports reports.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Manchester United are the latest club to contact Eintracht Frankfurt, asking for the relevant information about Hugo Ekitike. After a shocking 15th-place finish in the Premier League, United are splashing the cash on the transfer market. After signing Matheus Cunha for around €75m, they’re now closing in on the signing of Bryan Mbuemo for a similar transfer fee. Apparently they still have enough money to consider Hugo Ekitike as a transfer target. It remains a mystery where the money comes from – the Red Devils would probably have to sell some players before completing the next big money signing.

Hugo Ekitike might prioritize Manchester United over the other interested clubs, as he was a fan of them when he was little. Their current situation, however, might put him off.

LIVERPOOL

Manchester United’s biggest rivals, Liverpool, are also not holding back in the transfer market. They might have signed Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and record transfer Florian Wirtz already, but they’re far from finished. With Darwin Nunez on the move, the Reds are looking to sign a new striker. Hugo Ekitike is currently their top target. It might seem odd for him to join the rivals of his boyhood team, but Liverpool have the best chances in securing his signature as of now.

ARSENAL

It seemed like Arsenal were already out of the race for Ekitike, until their negotiations with Sporting and Leipzig about top targets Victor Gyökeres and Benjamin Sesko have come to a standstill. Many fans consider a top class striker to be the missing piece for Arteta’s team to finally win the Premier League. A big transfer is expected and should the negotiations for Sesko and Gyökeres really be abandoned, their focus could shift completely towards Hugo Ekitike. The Gunners would definitely have the capacities to sign Ekitike.

CHELSEA

Before the FIFA Club World Cup, Chelsea seemed to be the favorites in the race for Hugo Ekitike. However, they considered the €100m price tag too high and are now looking for other strikers. After signing Liam Delap, the transfer of João Pedro could be completed soon. A transfer of Hugo Ekitike to Chelsea is becoming more and more unlikely.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

There is still some hope in the Eintracht fan base that we can keep Hugo Ekitike at the club. Although looking at the situation realistically, the chances are really slim. Ekitike’s development has been incredible and he deserves to take the next step. It just remains to be seen where, and for how much he leaves.
