Eintracht Frankfurt win their first match of the season

Eintracht Frankfurt defeated 4th division side FSV Frankfurt 3-2 in their first pre-season friendly today. Toppmöller’s side lined up in an unusual 4-4-2 setup, with Nkounkou, Amenda, Chandler and Buta as the back four, ahead of goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. Hojlund and Chaibi formed the central midfield with Can Uzun (left) and Marvin Dills (right) on the wing. Wahi and Burkardt started up front.

Eintracht got off to a good start, scoring in just the second minute of the game. Can Uzun assisted a well-placed shot from Buta into the bottom left corner. Eintracht doubled their lead in the 27th minute. FSV defender Lukas Gottwalt was very unlucky to put the ball into his own net after Burkardt had hit the post. After that Eintracht took their foot off the gas. You could see that the players came out of a very intense week of practice. Our neighbors from Bornheim, on the other hand, were full of energy, often catching our defense off guard in transition. Both of their goals (in the 36th and 57th minute) came from quick counterattack. Their second goal, scored in the 57th minute, turned out to be the last of the game (Can Uzun had scored our third in the 47th minute.) Towards the end of the game Dino Toppmöller brought on many academy players – many of whom were making their unofficial first-team debut today. Marvin Dills (18), who was even part of the starting lineup, was one of our few energetic players on the pitch today. While not everything came off for him today, you could see what it meant for him to play for the first team, as he was giving it his all in every duel. The most exciting player, though, was Can Uzun. He was the focal point of our attack today, often driving inside from the left side. Elye Wahi and Fares Chaibi failed to impress.

A player most fans missed on the pitch today was Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman spent the whole 90 minutes on the bench, as he’s close to completing his transfer to Liverpool.

After all, there isn’t much we can take from this game. Above all, this was an event for the fans. Still, there are a few positives, like the performance of Can Uzun, that we can build on moving forward.
